Article I most enjoyed blogging 15 Funniest Cartoons and Web Comics About Layoffseval Most of my article ideas come to me well in advance of the moment they appear on JobMob but when this one came to me, I knew I had to get it out to you as soon as possible. I had already collected some of the cartoons in my bookmarks and spent a few more happy hours searching through comic and cartoon sites looking for more. Most controversial article An Open Letter to the Recruiters of the World From Job Seekers Everywhereeval This was another article whose creation was very quick as I was looking forward to how people would react. For my efforts, I was rewarded with this article having one of the most fascinating comment discussions of any JobMob article to date. The article that took the longest to compile 170+ Resources and Tips To Help Manage Your Reputation Online The article took over 4 days in total to write but well over a month from start to finish if you count breaks. Every time I thought it was done, I would discover some new source of reputation-oriented websites and plan to add them in. However, it was taking so long that (rarely for me) I even started to wonder if I would ever finish it. And I haven't! It was originally a â150+â list, but I'll keep growing it as I discover relevant links to add in. If you recommended only one article about job search this year, this is the one 37 Ideas to Grow Your Job Search Network Right Now Employed or not, spend at least 30 minutes per day actively reinforcing your brand and growing your network through the activities listed in this article. Getting Your Small Business to Perform Like a Champion - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Getting Your Small Business to Perform Like a Champion - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career It was a painful experience for me last week sitting in Madison Square Garden watching my favorite sports team the New York Rangers play for the National Hockey Leagueâs Eastern Conference Championship seeking to earn a trip to play for the Stanley Cup. My Rangers were shut out on home ice, 2-0 after a record breaking regular season of achievement. Yet, hockey teams are only measured by how they fare in the Stanley Cup Tournament. The experience reinforced for me how difficult it is to win a championship in sports, as the competition gets tougher and tougher every step of the way. It also reinforced in me the belief that becoming a championship caliber company in the small business world is much easier than winning a championship on the athletic field. The approach is the same, really. Itâs about strategy, tactics and execution, but the results can be dramatically different. Once an athletic team gets deep into the playoff tournament, around the level of the final four, or the semi final round, as my Rangers were, almost any team is of the caliber to win. Often, itâs one or two plays that make the difference and sometimes itâs where the phrase âitâs a game of inchesâ comes from, as that slight distance is all it takes to go from winning a championship to being just another loser, or vice versa. In the small business world it is much easier to become a championship company. Even though there can be competition in the marketplace, small businesses should invest more energy looking inside to refine their approach to get even better and worry less about what the competition is doing. Athletic teams have to do both and base their internal approach on the scouting of their competitionâs skills, talents and tendencies. Small business leaders need to invest internally to evaluate their companys own skills, talents and tendencies to refine them against not their competition, but to meet the needs of their ideal clients. The latter is much easier to do than the former. Worrying about and investing time, energy and resources to match or beat competition is a distraction in small business. To become a championship caliber company, a small business needs only to look inside, evaluate, refine and improve to meet market needs and conditions. A small business is a company competing against itself to become the best it can be. How good are you at leading your small business in that regard?

Would They Like to Work With You - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Would They Like to Work With You - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career After years of working as a Software Engineer, I was ready to go back to my passion around teaching and facilitating. I applied for a âTraining Specialistâ position. Of course, before applying, I needed to re-paint my brand with fresh colors, get into new circles of professionals, position my experience from an angle that was beneficial to this new field I was going into. I did a big brand makeover and I was ready. After I got an invitation for a formal interview, I started preparing myself like crazy. I tried to dust my old knowledge about training methodologies, assessing needs, measuring impact, and ideas for making training sessions interesting. I thought it would all be about what I know. I was so wrong. During my interview (5 long hours) I didnât hear one question related to my training skills or knowledge. It was all about who I was as a person I had to dig for real stories from my work experience that demonstrated how I was dealing with personal issues, tight deadlines, risky decisions, and changes at the last minute. It was all about real situations and me in the middle of them I was surprised and kind of disappointed that I couldnt show them how much I knew, that I couldnt taste the fruit that grew out of studying for hours and hours in the last couple of days But as I think about it now, it kind of makes sense. Your resume is proof that you have the right degree, experiences, and that you CAN do the job. But what matters the most in whatever we do is our personality, our attitude, and our ability to learn from our experiences. Later, when we went for lunch with the interviewers, now coworkers, I learned that the question each of them was trying to answer during my interview was: Would I like to work with her? It all boiled down to that. They wanted to get a sense of how Iâll behave sitting next to them day by day. Would I be willing to raise my hand for an unpopular task? Could they trust me with their work while they are on vacation? Would I have a positive attitude if things get bad? Will I be help for them or a burden? And frankly, I was checking them out as well. I wanted to make sure Iâm a part of a team that will inspire me, energize me, challenge me, and support me when needed. This was five years ago. Since then I moved on and the team members sprinkled away into various teams as well. But we still have lunches together (one just last week). We are still connected to this day, ready to support each other in any way we can. And I believe itâs because the focus of the interviews in that team was so much on the potential for collaboration. Next time when you are interviewing, remember the question behind all the questions. The question that your potential colleagues or a hiring manager have on top of their minds Would they like to work with you? Author: Henrieta Riesco is a founder of Intentional Career.
